Sometimes these systems complement each other and at other times they contradict each other, the blend of this competition becomes our current perception of time. The systems constantly change as we age, consume, learn, and move throughout our day, but when they function at extremes, it can lead to challenges with mental health and cognition. Some research has suggested that misaligned time perception systems may be key factors in ADHD, executive functioning, dementia, severe depression and anxiety disorders to name just a few potential mental health and neurological impacts.
The time perception index uses prior research to mimic how some of these systems interact and just a small sample of the many factors that influence them. This tool can give you insight into how your current lifestyle impacts your perception of time and how you are able to alter those elements to speed up or slow down your experience of time. Understanding and exercising time perception skills can benefit reflexes, performance, mood, attention, development, memory, self-esteem, creativity, stress management and allow you to be more present with experiences and loved ones.
The TPI can also provide a CALL TO ACTION by generating interest in and funding for additional research into cognitive temporal mapping systems, health impacts and therapies. We will continue to evolve the index as we build out the catalog of research. Please visit www.ictdnyc.com for more information.
